The first weekend of the Mount Isa Open is done and dusted, although the action will heat up from Thursday with four days of stroke play to test locals and visitors.

Four competitions were played over two days last weekend, with men’s and women’s foursomes, as well as a mixed foursomes and a stableford event.

The duo of Chris McIntosh and Phil Sweeney were the runaway winners of the men’s foursomes with a gross score of 110 over 27 holes, beating Dave Beattie and Marshall Briant (119).

Ray Wilson and Ian Brown took nett honours (106.5), pipping the unlucky duo of Beattie and Briant (110) who settled for second again.

The women’s foursomes was played over 18 holes and Angie Sciascia and Auretta Perrin (92) were big winners in the gross, with Ulla Allen and Sandra Beattie (102) the runners-up.

Nicole Mills and Dani Harris (72) were the nett winners, pipping Sally Dawson and Renee Vassallo (73) by one stroke.

Greg Caple and Alison Gordon won Sunday’s mixed foursomes gross with a score of 84, narrowly beating Tarrene Frost and Sam Broom, who carded 85.

Margie and Conrad McElligott combined to win the nett with a 69, with Caple and Gordon next best with a nett 70.5.
