Bucking oath! Montana cowgirl loves her first buckjump in Australia
Brittany Miller was stoked with her ride on Saturday.
She didn’t ride time, but you couldn’t wipe the smile off Brittany Miller’s face after she exited Kalkadoon Arena on Saturday, having just participated in the station buckjump event.
The Montana-based cowgirl, who arrived in Australia just two days prior, said it was her first time riding in a rodeo with one arm in the air.
“I came out here to ride broncs – I’ve never ridden in a buckjump before,” she said.
“Back home I ride ranch horses, which involves saddles like what the pick-up men are using, but you get to hang on with a rope, ranch-style.
“This was wild! Never in 10 years of rodeoing have I come out with one hand up in the air.”
Miller, who arrived in Mount Isa with her friend Emily Hawkins from Emerald, said she would next compete in this weekend’s Stonehenge Bushman’s Carnival near Jundah.
Now living in Billings, Montana, Miller said she had worked on the set of Yellowstone.
“I’m good friends with the director,” she said.
“A lot of it is fictional and outdated and doesn’t depict modern day ranching, but a lot of the politics are relatable to the real world.”
