Another premiership is on offer for Buffs in 2024 as they continued their hot start to the AFL Mount Isa season with a big win over Tigers on Saturday.

The reigning premiers led from start to finish in their 80-point win, although the scoreboard was not reflective of the contest.

The Tigers trailed by one point at quarter time and 24 at the half, but the Buffs put the foot down after the main break to win 18.12 (120) to 5.10 (40).

Buffs had more available players and were able to take advantage late in the game, but the closeness of the contest should provide encouragement to the Tigers hierarchy.

In the other men’s match, Lake Nash won an arm wrestle over the Rhinos.

The Northern Territorians looked in command at three-quarter time with a 23-point lead, but the Dajarra Rhinos  dug deep late to give Lake Nash a scare before they held on for a 17-point win.

The Bats kicked 9.12 (66) to Dajarra Rhinos 7.7 (49).

While the Buffs are safely on top of the ladder with four wins from as many matches,  AFL Mount Isa fans should get an indication of where teams are ranked following this Saturday’s matches.

The Rhinos and Tigers will do battle in the opening match at 12.30pm, while the Buffs take on Lake Nash from 2.30pm. Before the men’s matches, the traditional women’s match will take part at 11am.

Those wanting to take part in the women’s contest can simply turn up at Legend Oval prior to the game with shorts and boots as teams are selected on the day.
