Chilly mornings but competition hot on Richmond’s sand greens
Richmond hosted the Queensland Women's Sand Green Championships.

Visiting golfers got a rude awakening in Richmond on the weekend when they experienced near-zero temperatures in the mornings of the Queensland Women’s Sand Greens Championship
Players scrambled for jumpers and beanies ahead of their tee times, although the sun came out to make conditions perfect once the golf began.
Forty-eight players contested the two-day event, with Mount Morgan Golf Club’s Shai Pearce taking honours in division one.
Pearce, who plays off a handicap of 13.5 at her home course near Rockhampton, finished +5 on Sunday after rounds of 74 and 75, beating Gladstone rival Jillian Maynard by two strokes.
Cairns golfer Di Skinner was the winner of division two, while Tanya Beck from Roma was the winner of division three.
Six Richmond golfers took part on their home track, while players also travelled from Mount Isa and Hughenden for the event.
While the competition was close on the course, North West Weekly was reliably told the highlight of the weekend was the Saturday night dinner, which involved some funky outfits in an ABBA-inspired theme.
