Gulf cowboys will compete for more than $15,000 in prizemoney at this weekend’s Doomadgee Rodeo.

Event organisers promise two days of true bush rodeo thrills and spills as the talent of local riders is put to the test across the 11 categories on Friday and Saturday.

Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council chief executive officer Troy Fraser said the rodeo had grown into an important annual event for the region.

He said from the open bull and bronc categories to poddy rides, there was a category at the rodeo for anyone brave enough to climb into the chutes.

“The Doomadgee Rodeo is not just an event; it’s a celebration of our community, our culture, and our heritage,” Mr Fraser said.

“We are incredibly proud to host this exciting rodeo and showcase the talent of our competitors.

“This year’s event promises to be one of our best yet, with a great lineup of rodeo categories and plenty of activities for the whole family.

“We invite everyone to join us in Doomadgee for a weekend filled with action, entertainment, and a strong sense of community.”

Mr Fraser said the rodeo was an ideal event for families and had become known for its lively atmosphere and community spirit.

Gates open at 9am on Friday.
