Innovative thinking from the Cloncurry and District Race Club has given passage to two North West fashionistas in a Battle of the Bush final in Brisbane.

When rain forced the club to can Saturday’s race meeting, it also put paid to the Fashions on the Field, which had thousands of dollars in prizemoney, as well as entry into the Queensland Racing final at Eagle Farm on June 29.

However, Fran Moore and some dedicated club officials decided to put their thinking caps on and salvage the event.

By lunchtime on Saturday they had come up with a virtual fashion parade, with entries closing on Sunday evening.

In doing so, they opened up the competition to a larger audience.

“We sent out more than 50 nomination forms and had 32 entrants,” said Moore, who was thrilled with the results.

While the prizemoney ended up in the hands of two Mount Isans, both are well known to Cloncurry.

The “Man of the Track” went to Bart Logan, who picked up $500 and a ticket to the Battle of the Bush “Fashions of Afar” final at Eagle Farm.

“We actually ended up going to Cloncurry anyway because my brother lives there,” he said.

“We were just about to leave when we found out the races were off. The missus was about to start doing her make-up and was enjoying a mimosa when she picked up her phone and saw it on Facebook.

“So we got undressed and got in the car.

“When we saw they were doing a virtual fashions we got dressed up again on the Sunday to take the photos and send them in.”

It’s not the first time Mr Logan has won a ticket to the Brisbane final, although this will be the first time he flies the flag for the North West.

“I think I’m advantaged because not a lot of guys do the men’s fashion,” he said.

“The Cloncurry club always puts on really good prizes.”

Mr Logan said he planned to wear a very similar outfit in the final to the one he donned for the virtual fashions.

“I’ll keep it pretty much the same – I’m planning on changing the belt, shoes and tie,” he said.

“It was really nice and I was happy with it.”

Renee Moore was the winner of the “Lady of the Track” and won $2000 as a result.

She also won passage to the “Fashions of Afar” in Brisbane.

For those who missed out on getting dressed up, there will be another qualifier at the Mount Isa Cup this Saturday.
