Mount Isa-born Lane Pittman has collected his first major gong at the Golden Guitars.

The 18-year-old won the New Talent of the Year award at the 53rd Country Music Awards of Australia in Tamworth.

However, the teen prodigy was unable to be in the country music capital to collect his trophy as he was backstage at the Luke Combs concert at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Pittman has been performing as one of the lead acts on Combs’ mega tour of Australia and New Zealand.

The rising star paid special tribute to his late dad in his speech via video conference.

“A big one I want to thank is my dad. He passed away seven years ago, and I know that he would be loving tonight, and I wish he could have been here,” Pittman said.

The 18-year-old left Mount Isa when he was four but was a regular visitor to the rodeo.

Last year, his debut EP went to number one on ARIA’s Top 20 Australian Country Albums, earning him the nomination.
