The 1100m dash boasts a number of hopefuls from across the region.

Classy sprinter Han Dynasty will be the likely favourite in Saturday’s feature sprint race at Mount Isa.

Trained at Barcaldine by Bevan “Billy” Johnson, the five-year-old loves the sand track at Buchanan Park, boasting five wins from six starts since he first raced here in 2021.

Acceptances were not known at the time North West Weekly went to print, however Han Dynasty would almost certainly start favourite should he turn up for the Coppermarket (1100m).

It’s certainly not the strongest field the time-honoured race has witnessed over the journey, but several trainers will fancy their chances if their horses produce their best on the day.

The Jay Morris-trained Not Another Reiby has more than enough talent to win, but there will be question marks over his fitness levels – the six-year-old hasn’t raced since last year.

Steven Royes believes his veteran mare Dusky Damsel will hold her own in Coppermarket.

She’s had two starts in Mount Isa for two second placings.

Julia Creek trainer Tanya Parry has nominated three runners, including old timers Wicked Wiki and Zumikon, although her best chance might be with The Tyler, who ran third at Maxwelton back in April at his first start in the North West.

Mount Isa trainer Damien Finter will saddle up Rebel Salute in what will be the speedster’s last run in the region before heading to Brisbane for the Battle of the Bush final on June 29.

Han Dynasty’s stablemate Soopat was an eye-catching winner at the track a fortnight ago and has yet to finish out of the money in Mount Isa.

Bob Burow will be hoping The Brotherhood is fitter for his recent run, when pipped by Soopat, while Melissa Bieri has nominated Last Descend.
