Normanton school children were treated to the thunderous arrival of an AW139 army helicopter as an entertaining conclusion to the army reserve’s journey to the Gulf.

Fresh from assisting the reservists during their boat course on the Norman River, the chopper landed on the Normanton State School oval where children from both local schools as well as a few interested bystanders clamoured around the aircraft.

The Leonardo AW139 helicopters fly out of the 5th Aviation Regiment in Townsville and are generally used to support the Australian Defence Force’s major exercises and training, as well as assist with emergency response activities including during the high-risk weather season.
