Mount Isa residents will be able to buy discounted passes to this year’s Isa Rodeo from today as the event responds to criticism about the rising ticket costs for the iconic event.

Those with a 4825 address on their driver’s licence or rates notice will be able to save $61 on the price of a four-day pass, while local children aged 5-17 will have their ticket cut from $85 to $60.

“In response to community feedback, we are proud to introduce a special locals-only ticket to our 2024 event, giving residents a unique opportunity to experience the biggest and best rodeo action at a fantastic rate,” said Natalie Flecker, the CEO of Isa Rodeo.

Locals can buy their tickets from today until August 7 at two venues – Outback at Isa or Worn Out West – and must show proof of residency to get the discount.

The rodeo is celebrating its 65th birthday and has a long line-up of entertainers for the event.

Kasey Chambers and Christine Anu will perform at the Indigenous Rodeo Championships on the Thursday night, with Brad Cox and James Johnston the headliners on Friday and Saturday.
