Mount Isa has five new ambassadors for the rodeo after Zonta named its Queen Quest entrants for 2025.

Amy Kuhne, Chloe Kalbfell, Ashla-Paige Butterworth, Krystal Wright and Julie Hannaford will be the faces of the Zonta Mount Isa Rodeo Queen Quest, the first time the popular fundraiser has been held since 2022.

“I’m absolutely chuffed that we’ve had so much interest and so much positivity from the community as a whole,” said Queen Quest coordinator Loretta Gladstone, who shares the role with Deb Huddy.

“The girls are really eager and I’m so pleased to see that they’ve all picked charities that are close to their hearts.”

All Quest entrants must pick a not-for-profit that is either based in Mount Isa or provides a service to the people of Mount Isa.

Amy is fundraising for the Queensland Country Women’s Association, Ashla-Paige is backing Paws, Hoofs and Claws, Chloe is supporting the Mount Isa Hospital Auxiliary committee, Krystal is getting behind the Mount Isa Rural Fire Brigade and Julie will raise funds for the Mount Isa State Special School’s P&C.

“I think all of the charities and all of the not-for-profits that the girls are raising for are going to benefit ... those little charities have missed out for the last couple of years where there hasn’t been a Quest,” Ms Gladstone said.

“It will be great for Mount Isa as well because the fundraising adds more local events to the calendar.

“It will give people a variety of things to go to; I’ve seen the calendars and they’ve all got really different ideas, which is great.

“Not everybody wants to do a ball or not everybody wants to do a paint-and-sip or a high tea.

“They’ve all got really different ideas for fundraising, which is fantastic for the town.”

The coordinator said she was impressed by the enthusiasm of both the entrants and the community.

“I can honestly say the community has been so positive – I have not heard one negative remark,” Ms Gladstone said.

“It’s injecting that little bit of positivity into the town ... Zonta is all about community and all of those positive comments have been lovely to hear.

“The entrants themselves are just as keen. They’ve been asking about when they can go and see people about sponsorship because they are wanting to do things before Christmas!

“I’m like, ‘oh my God’ – they are all very eager.

“It’s their little honeymoon period at the moment because you’re on that high and you’re riding that wave.”

North West Weekly will do individual stories on the Queen Quest entrants in early 2025.
