Richmond and Karumba will host legs of the Outback Queensland Masters golf tournament next year, it was announced as the 2024 event drew to a close on Sunday.

It is a coup for the North West and Gulf communities as golf tourism continues to grow in the state, with mostly middle-aged competitors coming from far and wide to tee off in Outback events.

Karumba will also be the host of the $1 million hole-in-one, so those eyeing a chance at fame and riches should mark July 25-27 in their calendars now.

The Richmond event will be held a week earlier on July 19-20.

Carpentaria Shire mayor Jack Bawden said it was a drawcard to add to the region’s event calendar.

“We hosted this event in 2023 and our community is looking forward to welcoming the golfing community back to Karumba. It is a great sporting event and opportunity to promote our rich and diverse community to the nation,” he said.

Outback Queensland Tourism Association CEO Denise Brown said the award-winning Outback Queensland Masters was a unique feature on the events calendar, drawing visitors from across the country to explore the region’s natural wonders and vibrant communities.

This year’s overall champions were Wayne Berginey of Pioneer Valley Golf Club and Robyne Clayton from Goombungee Golf Club.

In the second division, Natasha Mason from Jerliderie Golf Club and Warren Oates of Yeppoon Golf Club claimed honours.

Early bird passes for the 2025 Outback Queensland Masters are now on sale.
