Mount Isa Pistol Club president Greg Anderson said he hopes the future of the club has been unearthed following Sunday’s open day, which drew a big turnout.

“We had about 60 people have a go and quite a few of those were juniors who we are keen to sign up, ”Anderson said.

“We were really happy with the numbers considering it can be really hard to promote ... having a newspaper will certainly help with our next one!

“It’s been four or five years since the club has held an open day. We stopped when COVID came along and decided this was the year to bring it back.”

Located behind Healy Heights, the Mount Isa Pistol Club has around 65 members and is one of the biggest in Queensland.

“We are open every Sunday, except for maybe Christmas Day if it falls on a Sunday,” Anderson said.

“We also have air pistol shoots on a Thursday night.

“We try to be as inclusive as we can as a club. We’re very adaptable for our members.”

With the 2032 Olympics more than likely to feature shooting events, the president said he was hoping Mount Isans saw an opportunity to represent their country at the highest stage on home soil.

“We’ve got a couple of keen shooters who will be having a crack at those Brisbane Olympics. There are some talented young shooters here at the moment which is awesome,” Anderson said.

Those who missed out on the Mount Isa Pistol Club’s open day, or those who attended and want to sign up, should get in touch with the club via Facebook.
