The RSL Mount Isa Sub Branch will host a market stall at Mount Isa Village on Saturday to sell its famous poppy merchandise as it kicks off its Remembrance Day commemorations.

A second market stall will be held at the same location on November 9.

These sales days are operated by volunteers and the money raised is used to fund the RSL’s welfare and commemorative activities across the year.

Mount Isa Village donates the retail space free of charge for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day badge sales.

Another popular item for sale at the market stall will be the famous Remembrance Day shirts, where $15 from each shirt is donated to the RSL sub-branch.

The shirts will also be sold at Ozzie Outdoors and the Irish Club.

Ozzie Outdoors owner Johno Davies said he had been selling the shirts since he first opened his shop 14 years ago.

He said the shirts had also proven a popular item online, with the store sending the item to customers across Australia.

“My father fought in New Guinea in the Second World War and when we arrived in Mount Isa, he was the president of the RSL in Mount Isa – so the RSL has always been important to me,” he told North West Weekly.
