Mount Isa's service groups working together
The city's prominent organisations gathered this month to discuss how they can collaborate in 2025.

Teamwork makes the dream work, which is why Mount Isa’s service organisations gathered as one earlier this month to discuss ways of stretching their limited personnel as far as possible for the benefit of the community.
Organised by the Zonta Club of Mount Isa, which is currently the best-resourced service group in the city, the gathering included Apex, Rotary, the Queensland Country Women’s Association and the International Men’s Day team.
Lions was also invited but was unable to attend.
“It went really well,” said Zonta chair Nikki Rowsell.
“We just got together and threw some pieces of paper up on the wall and mapped our what we’re all doing for the year, so that way we know who is doing what and how we can help each other.
“For example we’ve got a conference coming up in September that we’ll need some help with.
“Apex will need help with Rock Pop Mime ... there are some things that happen every year that you know about, but each group also has plans that the others wouldn’t be aware of.
“We thought we’d get together and table it all out so everyone knows what’s going on and now we can help each other.”
Revitalising a former Mount Isa tradition could also be on the cards in 2025.
“John (Davis) from Apex tells us that back in the day they used to have what was called the Glob Games, where all the service clubs get together and compete for a trophy,” Ms Rowsell said.
“But the theory is you want to lose because whoever wins has to host the next event!
“So you all get together and do fun games and it’s just an idea for the clubs to get together and have some fun.”
The Zonta chair said 2025 was shaping up as a busy year for her organisation after it took on the role of running the Mount Isa Rodeo Queen Quest.
“I’m on the outside edge of it a bit, but it’s going really well,” Ms Rowsell said.
“The girls are seen everywhere; they’re doing such a great job.”
