New Lake Moondarra phone tower already proving popular
The small cell tower was turned on just before the North West Fishing Classic.
A new small cell Telstra phone tower at Lake Moondarra has already passed its first major test after users reported “great coverage” and speedy data at the North West Fishing Classic on the weekend.
Notoriously a black spot for mobile phone users, the popular picnic spots at the lake are now receiving full bars on the 4G network.
Mount Isa Water Board chair Steve de Kruijff said the tower would be an asset to Lake Moondarra.
“This is a great step forward for our community and all visitors to Lake Moondarra,” he said.
“Improved connectivity means locals and visitors can now access mobile services in one of the most picturesque locations in our region.
“We’re thankful for the delivery of this important piece of infrastructure from Telstra, and the support from the Mount Isa City Council. We’re excited to see the positive impact it will have for locals, especially during major events like the North West Fishing Classic.”
The Lake Moondarra tower was a jointly funded project, delivered by Telstra with support from the federal government’s Regional Connectivity Program, and assistance from the water board and council.
