North West swimmers race against clock for state selection
A cohort of swimmers were at trials in Barcaldine on the weekend.

More than 100 students from the North West converged on Barcaldine at the weekend to compete in the School Sport Association regional swimming trials.
Racing across all major stroke types at the Barcaldine Swimming Pool Complex, the competition is a key component in determining the North West team that will travel to the state competition later this year.
Stretching across a massive area that includes Mornington Island in the north, Birdsville in the west, Hughenden in the east and Blackall in the south, the school kids qualified for Saturday’s carnival based on their times at inter-school competitions.
The competitors will now await details from organisers later this week to see which competitors finished their races with times that will secure them into a spot in the North West regional team.
Mount Isa School Sport Association manager Marie Dunne said the event was well attended despite recent floods and competitors travelled separately to the Barcaldine meet.
“All our Mount Isa competitors did really well with some winning their individual heats,” she said.
