Three-in-a-row for Sand Fire Bulls

Just one goal separated the two teams after a long season.

Despite finishing third in the regular season, the Sand Fire Bulls produced their best football in the finals to beat Isaroos 1-0 in Saturday’s decider.

Sand Fire Bulls captain Candice Page couldn’t wipe the smile off her face after her team secured its third straight grand final win in the Mount Isa women’s soccer on Saturday night.

The Bulls hadn’t been the best team all year – at least according to the ladder where they finished third – but Page said she was proud of the resilience shown to keep on fighting.

One goal was all it took to beat the Isaroos, undefeated all season, with Tina Ah-One finding the back of the net with a ripper in the first half.

“We’ve had some great games this year and even though we didn’t beat them we gave them a great run for their money,” said Page, acknowledging her team had struggled to field a full team for much of the season.

“It’s not just us, a lot of times you would play on a Friday night with eight or nine girls but coming into the grand final when everyone makes themselves available, it was a good test to see where we were at and I thought we showed we were good enough to win the trophy.”

Isaroos created plenty of opportunities to equalise or even take a first-half lead, however couldn’t get past Bulls goalie Sharradha Rolland, who was superb in front of the net all night.
