Townies are one victory away from locking up a grand final berth and might not even need to win another game after a stunning 52-6 win against Wanderers on Friday night.

Spectators were scarce on a cold evening at Alec Inch Oval but the lack of atmosphere didn’t deter the Lions from putting on a show.

After a fairly tight opening to the game, the ladders then ran riot, with Town’s speed too slick for the Devils’ defence.

Wanderers coach Tim O’Sullivan said it was the loss his side needed to have.

“It was probably the result we were facing if the lights didn’t go out a few weeks ago,” he said.

“Hopefully we can use it as motivation to fix a few things and get organised.”

With two rounds left in the Mount Isa Rugby League season, Town is on top of the ladder with a points differential of +120 and will know whether it has to beat Brothers in the final game of the season to lock in a grand final berth.

Wanderers and Brothers play this Saturday, with Brothers needing to win to set up a final round blockbuster against the Lions.
