There was another good turnout at this year's Dajarra event.

Dajarra's rodeo and campdraft saw a sharp increase in competitors this year, as the event grows in reputation for welcoming locals to try their luck in the rodeo arena.

“There are so many young people coming off the stations in the area who want to come here today and have a go,” Dajarra Rodeo and Campdraft committee secretary Courtney McMillan said.

“Everyone from the stations form the bulk of our competitors as well as our volunteers for the weekend – so they really are the backbone of the entire event.

“I think part of the appeal is that people find it to be a very authentic Outback event.”

Dajarra roadhouse owner Scott Punch said the rodeo and campdraft was the major tourist drawcard for the town.

“Most of our locals will travel to the Isa rodeo and to the Curry show, so we are always happy to be able to provide an event in our own town for the families living here,” he said.

“And it is always good to see people from the area drive into town for our event as well.”

With the roadhouse only currently offering diesel fuel at the bowser, Mr Punch told North West Weekly he was in discussions with a new fuel distributor with the aim of delivering unleaded fuel once again for travellers at the roadhouse before the end of the year.
